Aptos: Developments in Digital Infrastructure, Including Focus in India

Digital infrastructure is in a continuous state of evolution, with foundational technologies consistently reshaping how interactions, transactions, and overall development occur. In this landscape, the Aptos blockchain has emerged as a significant participant, and its expanding presence in India represents notable developments.

The early groundwork for advanced blockchain technology involved the Diem project. Following the conclusion of Diem's efforts, new innovations subsequently arose from its core technological advancements. This is the context from which Aptos, alongside Sui, originated, drawing from the intellectual property and the pool of talent responsible for developing the Move programming language and advanced blockchain architectures within the Diem project.

Aptos currently showcases robust capabilities that address requirements for broad utility. Its underlying framework encompasses several key components. The Move programming language is fundamental, integrating security features directly into blockchain applications to mitigate common vulnerabilities. Complementing this is a unique parallel execution engine known as Block-STM. This engine is capable of processing extremely high transaction throughput, with claims of achieving over 160,000 transactions per second (TPS). Future development plans aim to further reduce block times, targeting a range of 50-100 milliseconds. This level of performance supports demanding applications characterized by high-volume interactions, such as those found in gaming and social platforms. Furthermore, the platform is built upon a modular architecture, which facilitates continuous upgrades without requiring disruptive hard forks of the entire network. This design ensures a stable yet adaptable environment for ongoing development.

Aptos's strategic engagement in India is a noteworthy area of its global operations. The organization is making substantial investments in the local ecosystem, recognizing both India's extensive talent pool and its pivotal role in the global digital economy. Specific initiatives observed include:

  • Developer Training and Support: Efforts are actively underway to cultivate a robust community of developers. This involves programs such as the "Aptos Accelerator - India," conducted in partnership with Hashed Emergent, which provides funding and mentorship to local founders. Additionally, "Free Aptos Developer Bootcamps" are organized with partners like Rise In, extending to universities and colleges, including those in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities, to train a new generation of developers proficient in the Move language.

  • Expansion Initiatives for Access: Partnerships, such as the collaboration with JamboPhone, aim to facilitate entry into Web3 for broader populations. This involves distributing affordable $99 smartphones pre-loaded with Web3 features in emerging markets, serving as a direct access point for millions. Another example is the Anq partnership, which demonstrates a model of "invisible Web3" where users seamlessly earn rewards without needing to engage with the underlying complexities of cryptocurrency.

  • Strategic Technology Integration Across Sectors: Aptos is exploring applications of its technology across critical industries. This includes advancements in real-world asset (RWA) tokenization and the development of decentralized physical infrastructure networks (DePIN). A notable project in this area is Shelby, a high-performance decentralized "hot storage" network co-developed by Aptos Labs and Jump Crypto. Shelby is designed to address the demanding data needs of AI and DePIN applications, aiming to offer performance comparable to traditional centralized cloud providers while adhering to Web3 principles of decentralization.

Network metrics provide indicators of its development and adoption. Aptos has shown significant growth in Total Value Locked (TVL), with figures reaching over $1.3 billion, and some reports indicating surges of 700% in the second half of 2024. Daily active addresses have increased fivefold to over 1 million in the same period, and total transactions on the network have surpassed 2 billion. Since January 2025, the network has processed over 558,000 transactions and added 133,000 new accounts, partly influenced by its involvement as a wallet provider for Expo 2025. Further validating its position, Aptos's involvement includes participation in Hong Kong's e-HKD pilot program and its shortlisting for Wyoming's state-backed stablecoin pilot.

Aptos's comprehensive approach, encompassing its core technology, ecosystem development, and strategic market entry, outlines its position within the evolving digital infrastructure. This suggests a role for advanced blockchain solutions as foundational elements in future digital environments.
